Chapter 11
Lack of Appreciation
for Doing What’s Right

A lot of young and adult men are currently living the rebellious lifestyle because of lack of appreciation and honor that they received from doing what’s considered to be right. Plenty of times parents, loved ones, and society have overlooked young men for doing what is considered right while on the other hand honoring and respecting the acts that the rebellious young men take part in. In the last chapter I touched on young men not feeling a sense of appreciation for doing what’s right education wise, but now I will discuss young men not feeling appreciated for doing what’s right.

I was once friends with a couple of guys who were in group homes as young men. They told me that one of the main reasons why they ended up in the group home was because they felt as though they were not appreciated and respected for doing the right things in life. Their neighborhood and their peers rewarded them for doing rebellious acts, and the reward for doing something rebellious was greater than receiving no reward at all for doing good. What would make a young man who was once on the right path in life switch over to the opposite path and go in the wrong direction pursuing the rebellious lifestyle?

I often hear stories about parents stating how their kids were not raised to act rebellious and take part in destructive acts. Sometimes I would look at the news and see parents of murderers on the news stating “My son could not have committed that crime because I did not raise him that way”. The dilemma is not how the kid was raised; however the dilemma is the reason why he switched from living right and being on the right path to living the rebellious lifestyle. Many parents are still searching for the reasons as to why their kids act out the way they do with a sudden negative change of behavior.
